: Wide variety of craft items available from wooden accessories to porcelain pots and vases. All at great prices, not to mention the lovely paint calligraphy available too! Definitely worth a visit with lots to choose from!
: The place was busy on an early Saturday morning in December, temps just below 0 C. Lots of vendors, especially ones who specialize in beads of all colors and shapes (many are stone based, some are ceramic). Easy to get to on Subway line 10; get off, head west. Look for the red lanterns.
: Watched a chinese drama where part of the story is set at this antique market but the real market is nothing like what was shown in the drama. The merchants are not very friendly unless you intend to buy. One even stopped me from taking a shot of his stall simply because I was not buying anything from him. Only some shops were colourful, most sell the same stones, antiques.
: If you like fossicking in flea markets this is the place for you. A wide range of artefacts of all sorts. However if you’re not an expert it would be hard to know if the antique is real or fake. We bought a small carved jade dragon – probably an ornament for a robe and despite bargaining paid quite a bit. Found a similar one in the Beijing Capital Museum of the same (alleged) age so it was either real or a very good fake. Made a great gift all the same. Great fun.
: A great place to go if you’re looking for chinese new made antique things. Calligraphy tools, painting, wooden furniture
: There is a section for military collectibles and antiques; medals, helmets, uniforms etc. From the entrance, walk straight in. Walk pass the open area market until you see a building. Enter it and head to the second floor.
: This is a must do in Beijing. We went on a personal tour that had no affiliation with any of the shops in the market. This is a must as a local guide is able to give you advice such as what is real Jade vs fake and bargain for you. There are so many shops that you can only see a fraction of them in an afternoon. We bought some beautiful paintings on silk from the artist and a black and red enamel box. Would love to go back!
: I wanted to buy jade bracelet and concierge at my hotel recommended me to go to Panjiayuan Market. I have been perfectly aware that there are numerous counterfeits, so I’ve learnt as much about jade as I could and was prepared for the long search. Eventually, I have realised that apparently there are legit (by the entrance there hangs a plate stating that this is a verified vendor) stores where real jade could be bought. But the “claim of validity” wasn’t enough for me and I was glad to find that there on the territory of the market there is a Beijing University jewellery appraisal bureau. I had them to check and test (they have lots of specialised equipment there) the jade I’ve bought and issue a certificate of validity. Overall, absolutely great experience and it was so mu fun haggling with the storekeeper, it felt like bargaining is the form of art, just like diplomacy. After we shook hands and closed the deal, she fed me a pear and we had a lovely chatter about.
: f you love Stones, Gems and Incense, this is a place for you. You will need to have good knowledge of stones and gems to bargain for good price. Overall a good experience.
: What a fascinating place to visit, but much like any market you have to rifle through the tat to find an item of interest to you. There may still be some antiques in the mix, but if you go with the mindset that you’ll see some interesting things that you might not see elsewhere, you shouldn’t be disappointed. Be clear on what you’re prepared to pay and haggle hard. Prices quoted are often exorbitant, but I was able to get the things I wanted for about 20% of the original asking price. Be friendly, smile and enjoy the experience. Remember to take lots of small notes with you to avoid having to get change from a market holder. Our hotel warned about scams and counterfeit notes.
: I didn’t find anything to get excited about buying. Many of the items are not antiques, and those that are or close to being, are overpriced.
: Really worth going to check out huge huge markets with so much for sale. Can’t say it’s where you get a bargain I found things expensive but loved spending a few hours looking at everything.
: This open air market is like no other in China! After attending this market for almost 15 years, it’s like Heaven for the Shopaholic for Treasures of all kinds. I can assure you that much has changed as far as finding Wonderful Antique Chinese Treasures. However there are still many incredible unique items To find. As I have learned BARGANING IS THE KEY! Be prepared to disagree and then just walk away. Most things are Truly overpriced for the Tourist! The great buys are in the original art mostly found on the upper galleries. Most of the porcelains have been Burris’s for weeks to acquire that Aged look! MO MING DYNASTY HERE, BUT some may be Qing Dynasty. Wood items art often synthetic and carefully forged? I suggest to walk around. And then go back to purchase. I’m very lucky to have my CHINESE SISTER LIU FROM THE PEARL MARKT TO “fight” for me on prices. Also across the street from the market is a very old and Delicious Chinese Restaurant….. don’t go to late. As you may miss the incredible Peking Duck !
: This is advertised as an antique market, but there are very few authentic antiques. That said, there are many interesting items which can be had for a fair price if you are a good haggler. When dealing with the vendors your goal should be to get the item at about 25% of their initial offer. So start low and hold your ground. If you are prepared to walk away, the vendors will be willing to make a deal. There are hundreds of vendors selling everything from pottery to jewelry to paper fans.We bought a number of gifts for family and friends without spending a lot of money. Be prepared to take your time if you want to get the best value for your money. We had a lot of fun!
: We needed to get some gifts and came here. Don’t expect to find “real” antiques and a lot of the stuff is quite over priced but it’s fun to haggle and find things that are not at the other markets. Watch out for the touts wanting to take you to “special” warehouses because that’s where a heavy sell will start. Good coffee shop for a respite.
: For whom those like Antiques it’s the place to go … we like it so much but it’s a bit small .. i thought it’s bigger … 。。
: If you love antiques and you have bargain skills go for it though not every thing is original here but it depends on your skills. Also its very hard to communicate here as they know less English so please tell your guide to come along. Peace!!
: This is like a very busy “flea” market where you can find all sorts of antiques and curios. I was told by my guide that most of the stuff are fake but its still fun meandering through all the stalls and having a look at the items. All stall keepers expect you to bargain so don’t be embarrassed and give it a go. Unfortunately they don’t speak much English but we had our guide with us so it was not a problem and he even did the bargaining for us.
: This is a great place to explore if you want to get away from the normal tourist crowds. A lot of little street vendors who will wheel and deal. You can find some great deals here, just remember to start at 10-20% of the asking price and be willing to walk away. We had our tour guide with us which helped out tremendously. I would be hard pressed to say these are actual antiques, most things you can find in the pearl market, and most fake jade so be careful. Still fun to visit. Great deals!!
